'' Adoptive Parents knew the mothers identity all along!

They received a copy of the "Adoption Papers" that were issued by the courts - of course they did.

The mothers name was all over those papers along with her address at the time etc.

The adoptive parents knew the mothers details all along. So don't lead others astray with misinformation.

In the early days of White Settlement in Australia Shelters or Huts were made of Wattle & Daub.. Wattle frame as the timber was easy to find, and mud daub to cut out the winds, plus white wash to make it look pretty..

By the time my dad's uncles were building they used sawn timbers.
this building is no longer standing..unless use as a shed.
No running water, no electricity, woman's work as well as the children doing their share of the chores kept the home running. The men were out timber cutting & milling.

The Respect We Never Got

      Without blaming anyone, I suggest we take a look at respect.   To start with, we need to look at the beginning. The beginning was birth and separation for the mother and child. For the adoptive parents, the beginning was the discovery of being infertile or being unable to bring a child into the family any other way. .     It was like a big plane crash in a field. All the mothers and babies lying there crying and the rescuers came and carried them off in different directions. When they got to the Emergency Room, they dusted them off, told them they were fine and sent them on their way.. The mothers went home and the babies went to new homes. All were told they were fine. The most sacred relationship in the world has now gone up in smoke. They were told that there wasn’t any accident, no crash, forget about it, just get on with your life. The new parents of the babies were told the babies were fine and they should treat all the babies as if they were their own. As If. That’s a great little phrase.    As If.
     As if is sort of like treating my cat as if she is the German Shepherd dog I really wanted. But I get so frustrated. She won’t fetch, she doesn’t bark at the door and she won’t get my slippers. I love her, but I get so angry she doesn’t behave the way I want her to.   As IF just doesn’t work.
     So what really happened to each of those mothers and babies from the plane crash? As I see it, there is no substantial difference between the experience of losing a child to death and losing a child to adoption except:
If there was a real death of a child shortly after birth, the mother’s family and friends would have gathered around and said to her I am so sorry your baby died. You must be sad, let me comfort you, I know you hurt, let me ease your pain. I know you must be angry, let me help you. There would be a funeral and grieving and acknowledgment of what really happened, and there would be a grave to go to and there would be validation and healing. This mother would be given respect
     Instead, the mother who loses her child to adoption experiences the psychological death of her child, But instead of comfort, she gets told she did a brave and noble, unselfish, loving thing and she must forget about it, go on with her life. No one wants to help her talk about it, acknowledge it, cry about it, or mourn the loss of the her child. So the loss becomes almost unresolvable.   The grief stays stuck in her body and keeping pain in is destructive. She has to go into a kind of shock to survive, hit the pause button on her life and she goes numb. Life is forever changed. You can’t really live that way, but you can exist.    She gets no respect.
If there was a real death of a mother shortly after birth, at some point, the child’s father would tell the child that mommy died and it is so sad that this happened to you and you must hurt, let me comfort you and ease your pain and I know you must be angry, let me help you... .and there would be pictures and stories and a grave to visit, and grieving and eventually the child would find out that mommy didn’t die on purpose. This child would be given respect.
     Instead for the child whose mother gives her up for adoption, the child suffers the psychological death of her mother. But she is told that she is special and chosen and lucky. She is supposed to forget that there was another mother.   Make believe this is your only family, make believe that all is well. As IF it is your own. The message is that it is a good thing your mother is not there for you, is dead for you. You are not allowed to be sad about it, acknowledge the pain, anger or sadness, perhaps even to yourself. You are not allowed to mourn the loss of your own mother. The grief gets stuck in your body and keeping in pain is destructive. (So is keeping in anger and sadness) The child has to go into a kind of shock and to numb. You can’t really live that way, but you can pretend. And we adoptees are great pretenders. This child gets no respect.
     What would happen if one of your mother’s died today and you were told you couldn’t cry, you couldn’t go to the funeral and to make believe she never existed. What would happen to you. Take a moment and think about it.   Isn’t that what happened to most of us, in some way?
     It occurs to me that if we really had respect for the mother and the child we would do all we could to preserve the sanctity of that relationship and not separate them at all.
     If the mother and child could not possibly stay together, then giving her respect when she lost her child, the mother’s family and friends would have gathered around and said to her I am so sorry you couldn’t keep your baby. You must be sad, let me comfort you, I know you hurt, let me ease your pain. I know you must be angry, let me help you. And there would be grieving and acknowledgment of what really happened.
     If the mother and child could not possibly stay together, then giving the adoptee respect when she lost her mother, the new family would say you must be sad you lost your first family, it’s okay to cry about.. I’m sad too, you must hurt, let me comfort you, you must be angry, let me help you, be with you and hold you.
     If adoptive parents got respect, they would have gotten complete information on their adopted child and the truth about the effects on their child of losing the first family. The Adoption Agency and others would have acknowledged the sadness of infertility or inability to have a child on one’s own. Their pain and anger would have been acknowledged and they would have been encouraged to grieve the child they couldn’t have on their own.
     Ignoring the realities of adoption increases the pain and hurt. How can anyone function well if they’re told that what is true isn’t and what isn’t true is? For example, what if I lose my leg in an accident right after birth? And they tell me I didn’t lose my leg right after I was born, I was mistaken. But it hurts, mommy, and yet it still feels like something is missing. And I keep stumbling around as if I had only one leg (they wouldn’t lie about that would they?) and I don’t know why I’m having trouble managing as a two legged person...
     Our society doesn’t want to acknowledge what has happened to all of us, to give us respect. And truth be told, I lost more than a leg, I lost my mother. But wait, I got a prosthesis, a new mother, a substitute. Why doesn’t it work just as well?. Why does it still hurt? Of course our mothers lost a baby... but they got no replacement, no substitute. Respect is truth, no secrets, absolute honesty. We can all deal with the truth. Have we in adoption had our eyes wide shut? Isn’t it time they were wide open?
     Well, how can we give ourselves the respect we never got? By learning to experience our feelings. By learning to make I statements about our experience. By learning to say I feel sad because, I feel angry because, I hurt because. And when we say these things out loud for the first time and get validated for the first time, the feelings become real in a way they can never be if un expressed. And once the feelings become real, we can start to understand why we feel what we feel and once we understand why we feel what we feel, we can start to change the way our experience affects us today.
     We can respect ourselves by expressing our anger at what happened to us.
     Having anger about something that happened to us and expressing it does not make us angry people. We need to express it. If we don’t talk our anger out, we will surely act it out or act it in, in either case, it is destructive. It is poison and will poison our lives and relationships unless we release it.
     We can respect ourselves by expressing our sadness. Feeling sad about something sad that happened does not make us crybabies or wimps. We need to express it.   Keeping our pain in is destructive. It is poison and it will poison our lives and our relationships unless we release it.
     The only way that I know of to be truly happy is to give ourselves the respect of feeling all of our feelings. If we don’t feel the bad ones, we cannot feel the good ones.     Those around us often try to minimize our losses, our experience. We must not buy into that. We can respect ourselves by acknowledging the true extent of the effects on us of the events at the beginning. If we don’t acknowledge the full extent of our wounds, we cannot heal. Only by acknowledging the truth can we begin to heal from our wounds.
     If I am in an accident and go to the ER and they don’t examine my wounds, don’t clean the depths of my wounds and get the dirt or poison out, I will get an infection, the wound may heal superficially, but the infection is there never the less and I will pay a price. Only when I respect myself and take the risk of opening that wound again and clean it out will I be able to truly heal.
     Healing involves a lot of pain, but the alternative.. I guess we have all lived it. We need to give ourselves the respect to climb the mountain of pain that leads to healing. The mountain is steep, but climbable. There are many crevices on the way up, but each crevice still puts you closer to the top. And we are all here in this adoptive family to help each other, nurture each other, support each other, share with each other and learn from each other on this road to respect and healing.
     Clarissa Pinkola Estes, who wrote Women Who Run with the Wolves, has said that those who have been “abandoned” and face it and work it through can become the strongest people on the face of the earth. Don’t doubt it for a second, Only the Brave do this work, come to a conferences and support groups and work it through.
     The alternative to doing the work: Well, we can continue to bury our heads like an ostrich, but if we do, we will likely get kicked in the behind and not see it coming.
     Or to put it another way, if we continue to swim in Denial we will likely get bitten by a crocodile

Meanwhile, there is no end in sight for Queensland's flood victims, with conditions expected to worsen overnight.

More residents were expected to evacuate the state's worst hit areas as record-breaking floods continued to devastate parts of central and southern Queensland on Wednesday.

At Bundaberg, on the coast, the Burnett River reached 7.7 metres by 9pm (AEST) and was rising at a rate of 5cm an hour, acting chair of the local disaster management committee, David Batt, told AAP.

The river was expected to reach 7.8 or even 7.9 metres before midnight, with about 180 houses isolated for the next few days.

It is the highest level the river has reached in 50 years.

People in the town were evacuated as dozens of homes went underwater, with about 60 people spending the night at an evacuation centre in Bundaberg.

"It's absolutely amazing to see the amount of water that is out there," Mr Batt said.

"It's caused major damage to homes and roads.

"This is going to take us some time to get through."

At Emerald, in land from Rockhampton, flooding from the Nogoa River cut off the town by 9.30pm (AEST), Lord Mayor David Maguire said.

About 90 people took refuge at evacuation centres and many more went to stay with relatives and friends.

The river had reached 14.65 metres by Wednesday evening and is expected to continue to rise until Friday when it should peak at about 15.6 metres.

Rockhampton, on the coast north of Bundaberg, is expected to be hit next, but with so much water flowing towards the city, forecasters can't say how high the water will rise next week.

Amid conservative estimates of a $1 billion infrastructure damage bill, Premier Anna Bligh on Wednesday launched a donations fund for victims.

"This is an unprecedented situation in Queensland and we ask Australians to give what they can," she said.

Emergency Management Queensland boss Bruce Grady said the state was in the grip of an extraordinary weather event and the crisis would not pass quickly.

"These floodwaters are likely to remain high for a long period of time, in some cases that might be measured by weeks, rather than days," he told reporters in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Eight areas across southern and central Queensland are now the subject of disaster declarations, which give police the power to force people to evacuate their homes./ end of quote

The managers in our water authorities are being paid close to half a million dollars a year. We have been told that we must pay them this amount so we can get people of the right calibre. Is this an example of their smart decisions? Over recent years Queensland has employed numerous managers from down south who have no knowledge of local couditions, and it seems no common sence. May be it is time for a clean out of these no hopers like we got rid of the three amigos in Telstra

The night I took Bob Katter to dinner at the Royal Hotel in Paddington was, I believe, the first time he had been to the gentrified inner urban bubble that is historic Paddington. He wore his large beige cattleman's hat. He ordered a steak. (I have never witnessed Katter not have steak for dinner.) At the end of the meal, carrying his hat, he disappeared into the kitchen to thank the staff. I would love to have seen their expressions.

Its majority has been further shattered by the loss of Melbourne to the Greens and it faces the loss of the Tasmanian seat of Denison to independent Andrew Wilkie, The Australian reports.
The Government's hold on the NT seat of Solomon is also in doubt and this is before counting in Western Australia - where the Government has been struggling - is taken into account.

Looking back

My mother insisted I go on in year 11 until I gained paid employment.
Remembering the chats I had to the Church Secretary, they did have volunteer work..no darn pay. The Corner of building you see was the year 11 class room. I was the Dumbest the class mates said so..

This was the Hostel I stayed in; 15 & half I was & they treated me like a prisoner
while the staff got on their Easter booze up I was medicated & locked in for the night..1959 but not all students were treated that way, just me.

This is Yungaburra Hostel Laundry..

This Hostel I did not stay at, Used for Migrants for many years. Could be demolished.
My YWCA Hostel was at other end of story bridge to the left. I went there after leaving the 'brothel on the hill,' near Cloudland ball room - once was famous for Balls that were held in the city. We had the Pressler brothers - from Bundaberg over for tea one evening. Their mate from Ingham also a wealthy Cane Growing area had invited them, then chuffed off to Melbourne.. said she was joining the Navy!
Instead, I am told she worked in office of Hodleys, the chocolate & honeycomb.
Still looking after the Sugar.

JANE is a confident, articulate young woman who studied two years of a university course in her native Brazil. She plans to become an architect.

Jane - not her real name - has just spent two more years, and $22,000, at the Australian Hair & Beauty College for a hairdressing course she never intends to use.

While studying she worked 900 hours, for no pay, at Fuss Salon in Bondi Junction. She thought the business was owned by the people who owned the school.

Students who work at Fuss pay a non-refundable $1000 "bond" to use the salon's equipment.

Jane saw all this effort and money as the cost of getting into Australia. "I chose to go through this process," she said yesterday. "I just didn't know it was going to be so painful and so expensive."

Only a handful of the college's 200-odd students plan to go into hairdressing, she said.

The owner of Fuss Salon, Sharon MacNay, said the college was a separate business, owned by her husband, Richard Jeans. The bond was necessary, she said, because students often broke equipment that was expensive to replace: "You can pay $1000 for a pair of scissors."

Ms MacNay said hairdressing had been starved of labour since Australian students began to drift towards higher education a generation ago. "Hairdressing can be hard work and dirty work," she said.

In her view the 900 hours of work experience (which is equivalent to about 23, 38-hour working weeks) was necessary for students.

Many of her students worked at Fuss - which is open late seven days a week and offers a mobile service - but they were not compelled to do it, she said.

There is no suggestion that either the college or Fuss Salon is breaking the law in any way. / end of quote

A former Australian ambassador to Israel has accused the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, of being silent on the ''excesses'' of Israel and questioned why her partner has been given a job by a prominent Israel lobbyist.

In a letter to the Herald, Ross Burns, who served as an ambassador between 2001 and 2003, said Ms Gillard has been ''remarkably taciturn on the excesses of Israeli actions in the past two years''.

Ms Gillard has been part of the Australian delegation to the last two meetings of the Australia Israel Leadership Forum, founded by the Melbourne property developer Albert Dadon.

Mr Dadon employs Ms Gillard's partner, Tim Mathieson, as a real estate salesman, at Ubertas. Mr Burns said yesterday that Ms Gillard was at the forum's inaugural meeting in Israel last June, six months after the Israeli army invaded the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1000 Palestinians.

She was also the acting prime minister when the invasion took place, and issued a statement at the time criticising the Palestinian group Hamas for firing rockets into southern Israel. It did not condemn Israel for causing civilian casualties.

The former prime minister, Kevin Rudd, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Stephen Smith, have since expressed unease at the subsequent blockade of Gaza by Israel.

''It looks a bit funny when you go on this tour to promote bilateral relations, but you don't seem to have any reservations about the issue that was number one on the horizon,'' Mr Burns said.''

In 1873 the Colonial Government of N.S. Wales purchased the Callan Park site, then known as “Callan Estates”, with the purpose of building a large lunatic asylum to ease the severe overcrowding at the Gladesville Hospital for the Insane, at Bedlam Point, near Tarban Creek in Gladesville. The new lunatic asylum was designed according to the ‘enlightened’ views of Dr Thomas Kirkbride, an American. Colonial Architect James Barnet worked with Inspector of the Insane Dr Frederick Norton Manning to produce a group of twenty neo-classical buildings. These were completed in 1885 and named the Kirkbride Block.

The buildings were originally designed to accommodate 666 inmates, but by 1890 the asylum was seriously overcrowded with a total of 1078 inmates. A further group of buildings were built close to the Kirkbride complex around 1900 to ease the overcrowding problem.

The Kirkbride complex continued to be used for the housing and treatment of inmates until 1994, when the last remaining services were transferred to other buildings in the Callan Park grounds, towards the Broughton Hall at the southern end of the site. Many inmates were also transferred into half-way-houses in the local communtiy, in line with the policy of the State Government (see The Richmond Report of 1983 which accelerated the move towards de-institutionalising care), creating a number of social and moral problems.

The former facility is now occupied by Sydney College of the Arts, the fine arts campus of Sydney University.

Currently, the parklands are open to the public for their use and enjoyment, with the hospital being confined to a number of purpose-built complexe

History

Garry Owen Estate

Callan Park was initially a combination of purchases by Crown Solicitor and Police Magistrate John Ryan Brenan. In 1839 he bought what he then named the Garry Owen estate.

His residence, Garry Owen House, built about then and possibly designed by Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis, was on an elevation overlooking the Parramatta River, with a tree lined avenue (part of which survives) from wrought iron gates on Balmain Road through spacious gardens. In 1841, Brenan bought an additional three acres west of his estate and built Broughton House, which he sold with its extensive grounds in 1845.

For many years, Garry Owen was a focus for social life in the area until Brenan's bankruptcy in 1864 forced him to sell the estate to Sydney businessman John Gordon. Gordon renamed the property Callan Park, and in 1873 subdivided the land for auction as a new waterfront suburb.

The beginning of Callan Park Mental Hospital

Instead, with remarkable foresight, the Colonial Government bought the whole 104.5 acres as a site for a new lunatic asylum to be designed according to the enlightened views of the American Dr Thomas Kirkbride.

Colonial Architect James Barnett worked in collaboration with Inspector of the Insane Dr Frederick Norton Manning to produce a group of some twenty neo-classical buildings, completed in 1885 and subsequently named the Kirkbride Block, offering progressive patient care.

Built of sandstone mainly quarried on site, the buildings have slate roofs, timber floors, and copper down pipes. Spacious rooms lead to verandahs linking several courtyards. The verandahs are supported by hundreds of cast iron columns acting as down pipes for water which is fed into an underground reservoir.

Architecural Masterwork

Dominating the complex is a venetian clock tower with a ball which rises and falls according to the water level of the reservoir. Essential to testament was the calming influence of natural beauty and pleasant parklands, designed by Director of the Botanic Gardens, Charles Moore.

Further landscaping in the 1890's included the planting of palms and and rainforest trees, and the conversion of an informal pond to the curious sunken garden, which although waterless, survives.

Present day Callan Park

The Kirkbride complex continued to be used for patients until 1994 when the last remaining services were transferred to other buildings in the expansive grounds, towards the Broughton Hall (southern) end of the site. After massive renovations, the Sydney College of the Arts took possession in 1996.

The historic sandstone buildings and linking courtyards have been beautifully restored and new occupants provide an illustration of sympathetic use of a heritage complex. Some of the other historically significant buildings on the Callan park estate were not so fortunate, being allowed to fall into disrepair after being vacated.

Garry Owen House

John Brennan's Garry Owen House was also used by Callan Park patients for many years and later became a nurses training School.

It too had undergone extensive internal and external refurbishment and now houses the NSW Writer's Centre. Although many alterations were made over the years, enough of the original 2-storied Greek Revival House remains to make one of the most important heritage buildings in the municipality.

Broughton House

Sadly Broughton House has not fared so well. A two-storey Georgian house with circular drive, it was built in 1842 and is the sole survivor of three grand houses in this precinct. It had several owners after being sold by John Brenan in 1845.

From 1864 to 1905, Broughton House and nearby Kalouan (demolished in 1932) were the family homes of Sydney businessman John Keep.
The house became a 20 room mansion, called Broughton Hall by its owner, and extensive pleasure gardens surround both houses.

Annadale timber merchants William and Frederick Langdon bought the combined properties in 1912, and in a patriotic response to the Anzac casualties of 1915, offered the site as a convalescent hospital for shell-shocked soldiers.

Broughton Hall functioned as No. 13 Australian Army Hospital until 1921 when it became NSW's first psychiatric clinic for voluntary patients. The founder was Dr Sydney Evan Jones who developed a leading teaching hospital and incorporated the existing 25 acres of lawns, fish ponds, and summer houses into his landscaped therapeutic gardens.

Broughton House underwent many additions and functions until it was vacated in 1978, two years after Broughton Hall psychiatric clinic amalgamated with the adjacent Callan Park Mental Hospital to form the Rozelle Hospital. Current theories on mental health have resulted in under-funding for institutional care, leading to the gradual closure of wards, vandalism and fire damage of Broughton House, and serious neglect of the heritage gardens.

About Callan Park

The Rozelle Hospital site in Sydney's inner west is 61 hectares of exceptionally beautiful, undulating waterfront parkland, preserved by historical accident, but still under threat despite the Callan Park Act being put in place late 2002.

Its legal owner, the NSW Department of Health, is continuing a long process of closing or shifting the hospital's services, with a planned close date of 2005. In the meantime many of the buildings and the heritage gardens are undergoing demolition by neglect. Hence the need for a Callan Park Trust.

The site incorporates many layers of archaeological, Aboriginal, historical, cultural, aesthetic, and environmental heritage. It contains many heritage buildings, including the original houses (1839 and 1842) of the two estates on which it is based; and the magnificent Kirkbride Block, completed in 1885 for the Callan Park psychiatric hospital (now the campus of Sydney College of the Arts).

The community, through the Friends of Callan Park, is campaigning to have the psychiatric hospital services maintained there, and the whole site formally dedicated as a multi-purpose metropolitan regional 'working park'.

Callan Point

Callan Point on Iron Cove is one of many beautiful heritage sites which branch off from the Parramatta River.

Before western colonisation the area was an abundant food source for the Eora people. Although there is no physical remaining evidence of aboriginal cultural production at Callan Point, shell middens found in the area suggest the Eora people had found an ideal site in Callan Point.

During colonial times Callan Point was busy with sea traffic. Remaining rock carvings (not aboriginal) seem to reflect events that occured from the late 1800's through to the early 1900's. The carvings suggest the passing of many cultures through Callan Point.

Since the construction of the Iron Cove Bridge taller ships have been unable to access the area.

Self-reported effects of dreams on waking-life creativity: An empirical study – Small World: "Over the years, a variety of examples of how dreams inspire creative persons have been published. Nevertheless, empirical research in this area, in which “normal” people are investigated, is rather scarce. The present study focused on the self-rated effect of dreams on creativity in samples not selected for creative abilities. Within a student sample (N = 444) and a web-based survey sample (N = 636), a questionnaire about dreaming and creative dreaming was presented. In addition, the student sample completed several personality measures and creativity scales. The findings indicated that dreams which stimulated waking-life creativity played a considerable role in the everyday lives of ordinary people (about 8 % of all dreams). The examples reported by the Online Study participants fell into three categories: dream images used for art, work, or similar areas; dreams that solve a (most often) work-related problem, and dreams that provided the impetus to do something the dreamer otherwise had difficulties doing. The fourth category (emotional insights) was related to dreams within the psychotherapy domain. The main influencing factors on frequency of creative dreams were dream recall frequency itself and the “thin boundaries” personality dimension. Future research might focus on diary techniques to study the effects of dreams on subsequent waking life in a more detailed way and on the possibility of developing techniques to increase the frequency of creative dreams that might be valuable as aids for people in creative jobs."

My friend & I went to an Eatery for a light meal. Both being Pensioners we do not have money to squander. She settled for a ''Chicko Roll' Mainly cabbage Snack.
I asked for Chicken & Chips. We had a steady stream of customers come & go as we sat and waited. After 10 minutes the Waitress/Server announced there was no chicko Roll. We paid $9 each for Chicken n Chips on a plate, no drink.

Ms Anna Bligh bases part of her argument on the past ownership by the State of Butcher Shops. She had to go way back to a time when the Labor Government had a different view of feeding all Queenslanders. I quote from a government site itself..

This single-storeyed brick shop was erected in 1919 for the Queensland Government as a purpose-designed State Butcher's Shop. From 1915 to 1929, 90 State butcher's shops operated in Queensland for various periods, mostly in leased or purchased premises. The peak number of shops operating at any one time was 72, in 1922-23. The Roma shop was one of Queensland's few purpose-designed State butcheries, and one of the more substantial of the regional State butcher's shops. In 1915 TJ Ryan's Labor government won office in wartime Queensland on the strength of promises to improve living standards - principally by addressing the problems of high commodity prices, price-fixing and the emergence of monopolies. The Labor party in general and Ryan and his Treasurer, EG Theodore, in particular, advocated public ownership of key economic activities, in competition with private enterprise, but at fair prices. They argued that by operating at a reduced profit margin [the State butcher's shops average one-fifth of a penny profit on every pound of meat sold], the cost of goods and services provided by State-run enterprises would be reduced, and that the flow-on effect would be to reduce and stabilise prices for similar goods and services provided by the private sector. In the period 1915-1925 the Queensland Government instituted or acquired a diversity of business enterprises, including a State Insurance Office, a Public Curator's Office, the Golden Casket State Lottery, sawmills and joinery works, mining and fishing ventures [including a string of State Fish Shops], a hotel, a sugar mill, cold stores, plant nurseries, cattle stations and a network of butcher's shops, the process being formalised with the passing of the State Enterprises Act of 1918. These activities were part of a broader, pragmatic Labor platform which advocated State intervention in the private sector to protect individuals against capitalist exploitation, not as a means of involving workers in the control of production, or of raising wage levels. Labor politicians regarded State enterprise as 'State capitalism' rather than 'State socialism'. In 1915 cattle raising was one of the principal economic activities of the State, and meat was considered a staple food. Believing that all Queenslanders should have access to meat at fair prices, and needing to maintain a regular supply of cheap meat to the Allied fighting forces, the Ryan government introduced a State-wide system of State-owned butcher's shops which proved to be among the more successful of the numerous State enterprises. The first State butcher's shop was opened in Roma Street, Brisbane, on 12 November 1915, and soon other shops were established in Brisbane suburbs and in regional centres such as Rockhampton, Gympie, Townsville, Charters Towers, and Mount Morgan, following the railway lines via which frozen meat was distributed to the State butcheries. During the life of the scheme 90 shops were opened throughout the State."

Methods used by "Adoption Professionals":

1. You were told you that you were unfit to be a mother because you were 'unwed'. this I tick yes..

2. You were told that you would be inadequate as a mother. this I tick yes..

3. You were told that keeping your baby would be selfish. this I tick yes..

4. You were forced to draw up a list comparing what you could give to your baby with what adopters could give. this I tick yes..
5. It was stressed to you that your baby "needed a two-parent family."this I tick yes..kept on stressing...

6. It was stressed to you that the needs of your baby came before your own needs and that you could not fulfill your baby's needs. this I tick yes..

7. The doctor who delivered your baby told you that you must sign-over your baby to him for adoption. (Did you later find out that the baby was adopted by friends of the doctor?).
Not like that, the State & Church through the Hospital, the Notorious Matron ran both Home & Hospital...Adoptive Mother was the daughter of an interstate doctor who worked closely with this hospital. The Natural Father I met what seemed accidental after I got back from holiday in Victoria. He had asked me the year before if I would have a 'baby' for his cousin and wife.. The thought horrified me.. It appears they got their wish.. Devious & Deceitful..

Hooly dooly. What a prudish lot Australians are turning into. The Chaser's War on Everything featured a short skit with a fake advertisement for the "Make a Realistic Wish Foundation." But apparently many viewers were incredibly outraged.

So much so, that the Chaser team have decided to take the segment out of the repeat broadcasts of that episode. Probably at the request of the ABC management.

OK, so the skit wasn't the funniest i have seen from The Chaser team. But its hardly the most offensive. Ben Cousins put it best after his finger incident - people need to stop being so precious. Its a comedy show, don't like it, don't watch it. I think Australians are losing their sense of humor.

The problem with rail at the moment is that there is so much money in the mining side of the game as against the agriculture side of the business," he said.

"Mining is just a matter of loading at one point and unloading at another point in a continual cycle - whereas agriculture is seasonal and with nowhere near the money involved."

The AgForce Cattle spokesman said rural strategies must be based on rail loading centres being kept in place in the short term, with the longer term opportunity to get a clear indication from government about the provision of services for rail and road transport.

"But I'm very fearful of the outcome," Mr Hall said.

"At the end of the day we all know that mining comes and goes but agriculture is always going to be here."

The thinking is the State Government should be making every effort to ensure that grain and cattle producers aren't side-stepped in the countdown to selling off QR's most profitable parts.

AgForce says if the sell-off drives efficiency gains, it could be a positive move, but rural freight users required security of service into the future.

Queensland unions have branded the proposed $15 billion sell-off of major state assets as a betrayal by the Bligh Labor government.

Addressing a protest rally by 1,000 trade unionists outside the ALP's state conference in Brisbane on Sunday, union leaders called for a three-year campaign against the planned privatisations.

But Premier Anna Bligh is standing firm, campaigning hard to put her case that the government is determined to protect the state's future.

The assets up for sale are Queensland Motorways Limited (QML), the Port of Brisbane, Forest Plantations Queensland (FPQ), Queensland Rail's coal freight business and the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.

Sunday's demonstration, however, also revealed a factional split, with the left-wing Electrical Trades Union (ETU) saying it will re-align the party's political allegiances.

Union leaders told the protesters of a long list of former privatisations that had not delivered promised benefits.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union secretary Owen Doogan said the proposed sell-off was a betrayal by the Labor government.

"Railways should remain in the public sector, ports should remain in the public sector, forestry should remain in the public sector," he said.

"Today is only the beginning of the campaign - we will not be going away."

David Smith, of the Australian Services Union, also predicted a long campaign against privatisation.

"Queensland is not for sale," Mr Smith said, a statement which the protesters immediately adopted as a chanted slogan.

Peter Simpson of the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) predicted the rally would be the first of many across Queensland.

He said the ETU would withdraw from existing political affiliations within the ALP.

"The only reason the electricity industry isn't up for sale is because they can't get enough money for it," Mr Simpson said.

The protesters listened quietly as ALP state president Andrew Dettmer spoke in his role as secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) - telling them the union was opposed to the sell-offs.

But they howled him down when he said he wanted to comment in his role as ALP Queensland president.

Mr Dettmer said he wasn't there to defend the party, but he urged the protesters not to leave the ALP.

"(The party) then becomes beholden to those people who would see these panaceas, like privatisation, as a way forward," he said.

Earlier at the state conference, Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) general secretary Ron Monaghan says it and other affected unions have been swamped by phone calls of protest against the sell-off.

"Workers are angry about this decision and there's been no opportunity to debate it in the community," he said.

Mr Monaghan said the jobs, wages and entitlements of thousands of workers are under threat because of the decision to sell.

The state conference was due to vote later on Sunday on whether the government should scrap the plan."

Forest land made available for coal port..By Melinda Howells June 4th 2009

Parliament has approved the use of state forest land in central Queensland for the expansion of a coal port.

Queensland Sustainability Minister Kate Jones says 51 hectares of land will be made available for the Wiggins Island Coal terminal at Gladstone.

Ms Jones told the H\ouse that in exchange, 374 hectares of similar land will be protected.

"This shows that the Government responds to infrastructure needs in a way that places high value on the environment but also acknowledges and encourages the social economic and sustainable development of the state," she said.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says she has used a visit to Rockhampton's Beef Expo to hear cattle producers' concerns about tree-clearing laws.

Ms Bligh says she has discussed it with cattlemen today.

"They've got a lot of interest in taking their product to the world, we have an internationally envied reputation for a very clean and green product and we're keen to do more to promote that," she said.

"But not surprisingly a number of producers have taken the chance to talk to myself and my ministers about the possible effects of changes in vegetation management laws. That's why I'm here, I want to listen to people, we want to get this right."

I grew up in a small farming community about 50 miles from
Brisbane Post Office You could not rear a family on 40 - 60 or 80 acres
dairying & piggery today..Our Parents did, as did hundreds,
maybe thousands of small farmers did before
Milk Tankers, big business & tax benefits to
Queen Street Farmers.

The Doctors, the Lawyers, mostly Solicitors, Accountants, & others who cried
POOR. they invested in land, put on a manager & hired cheap labor.
Not sure if the combine Liberal/National party encouraged this with Tax Benefits including generous fuel subsidy..

If a Farmer went bust prior to Liberal/National new government the farm & All Possessions were sold to pay off the Bank & other Creditors. The Children, if the Relatives could not take them, & prove they were well looked after they
were made 'State Wards!'& Fostered Out.

It was back in 1954, our small School got a new Teacher after a few months of none!

I ended up leaving the farm that year, spending a miserable time living with Dad's Brother Bill & his wife Iris in what I would call central Ipswich. Blair School was in walking distance, yes I walked there everyday, except when I was sick. Caught the Measles off my young cousin. Port Moresby, May 19: National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has blamed police for anti-Chinese violence in Port Moresby and the coastal cities of Lae and Madang last week because they allowed a march that should have been prohibited, reports The National newspaper.
The National Capital District is of 240 square kilometers and includes Papua New Guinea’s capital Port Moresby.
At last count it had a population of 254,158.
“Now that the march has happened and opportunists took advantage of it, the proper thing would be for police to arrest the organisers of the march,” the governor told a news conference in Port Moresby.
“They cannot say now that it was opportunists who took advantage of it because these opportunists would not have done what they did if these people had not gone out to agitate,” he said.

Papua New Guinea’s Acting Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu with Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in Port Moresby earlier this year. Dr Temu, who has ordered Commerce and Industry officials to investigate allegations that some Chinese enterprises in Papua New Guinea are illegal and the police to arrest the organisers of continuing anti-Chinese riots, wants Australian police to return to its former colony

The governor assured the district’s Asians that Port Moresby was safe and they should reopen their shops.

“If tomorrow all our Chinese merchants leave, it will still not get us into business.
“We will not be better of than we are today.”
The National newspaper reports that Chinese businesses have also been targeted in Kainantu and Goroka, Eastern Highlands province.
The newspaper says Acting Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu has directed Commerce and Industry officials to investigate allegations that some Chinese enterprises are illegal.
The riot in Madang erupted on the eve of the Australia-Papua New Guinea Business Council forum.
Two Chinese-owned shops in Madang were damaged and looted by young men on Saturday morning in what police and eye witnesses said was a “copycat” attack on Asian businesses in Port Moresby and Lae last week.
The surprise attack forced all other businesses to close except for a few Papua New Guinea-owned retail outlets and second-hand clothes shops and the main market.
The violence began when thousands of men and boys stormed Chinese shops in Lae.
In addition, 70 Papua New Guineans have been charged following fighting with Chinese workers at the prospective Ramu open-cut nickel mine near Madang on the country’s northwest coast.
Three of 14 Chinese hurt in the violence were so seriously injured they had to be evacuated by air to hospital in Port Moresby.
Equipment at the site of the project’s Basamuk refinery together with worker accommodation facilities was extensively damaged.
More than 30 vehicles were destroyed.

This is dismal room where I slept, if I had window open all the street noise & fumes from cars, trucks & even trains from over street wafted in... cough .. cough..
How ever do I get better. "Please can you help me, I need someone to sleep over as the hospital will not let me home without someone there to see I do not fall over in the night! Otherwise it is 'In Care for Me'" was her plea..

I ended up doing such chores as hanging out the washing, & not just the 'client's washing,' but the official carer's clothes too!

ANNA Bligh's leadership has been undermined by one of her own ministers vowing the Premier will not get her own way in a future cabinet reshuffle.

In an interview with The Courier-Mail, Ms Boyle insisted the Labor caucus would choose who departed and stayed in cabinet ranks and not Ms Bligh.

"The Premier would not have it her own way but we are mindful of her thoughts," Ms Boyle said.

"The caucus have a big say in this. Our groups choose the people they want to go into the ministry."

But Ms Bligh last night shrugged off the comments, vowing that she would personally push ahead with her plans for renewal.

"If the people of Queensland give me a mandate on Saturday, I will pick the best people and I am determined there will be renewal," she said.

Ms Boyle's comments foreshadow a likely showdown over cabinet positions and come as Ms Bligh attempts to convince voters she is a strong leader.

Confusion continued over a future Labor cabinet yesterday after the Premier again went outside her senior team and guaranteed another minister - Ms Boyle - a position.

Campaigning yesterday in the expected knife-edge seat of Cairns, Ms Bligh promised the Cairns MP a role alongside Deputy Premier Paul Lucas, Treasurer Andrew Fraser and Climate Change Minister Andrew McNamara.

With the election only three days away, the Liberal National Party also stumbled yesterday when Gold Coast MP Ray Stevens vowed to find $60 million to upgrade the Carrara AFL stadium the LNP has been campaigning heavily against.
All 11 ministers yesterday refused to address their futures, declining to withdraw from the cabinet race or show interest in keeping their portfolios.

They instead insisted they had to focus on winning their seat, many of which are among the safest in the state.

Ms Bligh threw all positions open last week after the controversy over Health Minister Stephen Robertson's failures to handle his portfolio.

The Premier yesterday indicated talent would be the overriding factor if she organised another cabinet, noting there must be a mix of different genders and ages from different regions.

"Ultimately, the best governments are formed when you put the brightest people in decision-making positions and talent will be the overriding factor," Ms Bligh said.

She also said there could be a new department focused on job security to combat the global financial crisis.

Communities Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr was of one many unsupported ministers, saying she was just focused on winning her Townsville seat.

"That's about as far as my mental capacity will take me," she said.

This election is doomed. The voter cannot win. One 'leader' tells constant untruths, is already getting rid of public service jobs despite rhetoric, has been a disappointment when handed the prize on a platter and will have a battle on her hands reshaping Cabinet. The other 'leader' has uncosted promises, no experience in the 'hot seat', and will make the social and economic situation worse by sacking lots of public servants. Both sides appear to have little talent. Both sides are a disaster. My bet is that both sides, if they win power, will supersize government departments and spill thousands of public service jobs at a time when government should be employing people. How I wish the Greens hadn't sold out. Now I have no-party to which I am prepared to give my vote.

138 IQ, graduated in one of the best European universities, 6 years working with the number two of a relevant research centre directed by a Nobel Prize winner, over 100 IT projects delivered in large organisations as big as 10 times the QLD Government. 5 languages written and spoken. Referrees are Order of Australia.

Well, I applied at least 20 times for a miserable vacancy at the more miserable QLD government and they short listed me only once to eventually write a sad security manual that I would give only to a neo in my country of origin.....the other 19 times they told me that the selection had too many amazing candidates thus they could not even shortlist me...

Judging from the chaos in Health,Transport,Energy,Tourism and Information Technology, Anna Bligh must have supported really a rotten recruiting system...probably based on her religion..I named it : "Yessology".....Good luck with your new technical cabinet Ms Bligh....

Nothing is impossible but ther eis a 90% probability that Bligh will not be re-elected.

First of all, Queenslanders are very disappointed with Labor therefore they will vote LNP candidates despite they never showed their facein public before this week.

Finally, in Westend there is an independent, Ms Merilyn Haines that had several hundred local residents interested to her proposal to ban water fluoridation and at least 50 of them contacted every family of Westend to inform them about the health hazards related to water fluoridation.

After this social action, 80% of Westend voters have developed a precise opinion about Bligh: a bad politician who played with our health to make the dirty interest of a very small industrial lobby....

All the knots come to the comb one (election) day, dearest Anna Blie....

Can we drink water from the tap?
The water that comes out of our filtration plants is safe and 100% potable and is delivered to your homes via several hundreds of kilometres of mains and pipelines. While water may be contaminated when being distributed because some of these pipes may be very old and may have leaks and intrusions, we test the water at various points and take every measure to protect its safety.

What causes water contamination?
Leaks in the pipes. Soil and groundwater may seep into leaking pipes especially when the pressure is low. Rust in old pipes. Rust often gives the water a reddish or yellow stain.

Booster pump. The use of booster pumps creates more pressure in the pipes. This pressure can suck dirt into the pipes and contaminate the water.

Booster pumps should never be connected directly after the water meter. The pump will draw in more water and reduce the supply in the community. It is also one of the leading causes for intrusion as its high pressures often draw in more than water through leaking and old pipes.

Illegal connections. These connections are not well constructed and will cause soil and mud to seep in. You must report any suspected illegal connections to our Call Centre Hotline 1300 242 686 anytime.

Badly maintained tanks and water storage facilities. These are breeding grounds for serious contaminants so it is important that you clean your tanks regularly.

What is CHRC doing to protect our water from getting contaminated?
Everyday, CHRC Water takes water samples from all over .. We test the samples to verify your water’s safety. If there are any problems in the samples, we immediately trace the system for contamination and we flush and clean the lines to protect your health. [ Oh well, we should be]

CHRC is working to rehabilitate and modernize the water system so we can guard against water contamination and give you safer, cleaner water right out of your tap.

Is my deep well safe?

As a regular rule, all deep wells should be equipped with chlorinators to purify the ground water. Ground water can be easily contaminated through old, abandoned wells or through badly maintained septic tanks.

Check your faucet. tap
Replace worn-out rubber stoppers and check the pipes, water closets and connections in your home for any leak. To check for leaks, turn off all your faucets and check your meter. If it is still running, call your plumber for you probably have a leak in your system.
Don’t leave that water running.
Don’t leave your faucet flowing when brushing your teeth or filling up a container. When washing your hands or face, use a water basin.

Don’t waste water when washing your car.
When washing cars, simply use a rag, a pail of soapy water, and a pail of clean water. Using jet sprays or water hoses waste a lot of water.
Maximize your laundry water.
Wait for a full load of clothes before doing the laundry and soak them for a while in the soapy water to make washing easier.

Minimize use of your shower.
When taking a bath, use a water pail and “tabo” as often as possible. This method saves more water.??

Check the water level at your water closets.
Don’t let the water in your toilet tank get past the overflow level, making the adjustment if it does by bending down the float arm. Putting a brick of a rock in it to displace water will also reduce your water consumption.
Report all road leaks and busted fire hydrants.
Take responsibility for all road leaks or busted fire hydrants you see….. by reporting them to YOUR COUNCIL…
